Custom Packaging Box

A custom packaging box is designed from scratch to hold a specific product, tell a specific brand story and create a specific unboxing experience. We engineer, prototype and produce custom boxes at our Marrickville packaging department.

What makes packaging custom

Custom packaging is not a standard box with a label on it. It is a structure designed for the contents: the dimensions, the weight, the fragility and the reveal sequence. The box shape, opening mechanism, insert configuration and surface finishing are all specified for the project.

This level of engineering suits product launches, influencer welcome packs, luxury retail packaging, corporate gifting programmes and award-winning brand experiences.

Our design process

We start with the contents and the intended experience. Our in-house industrial designer develops the structure, produces a dieline, selects materials and builds a physical prototype. The prototype is tested with the actual contents to confirm fit, protection and presentation.

Revisions are made at the prototype stage, not on the production floor. This front-loaded approach reduces waste, avoids delays and ensures the production run matches the approved sample.

Case study: Samsung Galaxy S24 Welcome Pack

We developed a multi-compartment bento box style pack for Samsung via CHEP Network. The project involved solving complex packaging tolerances so each compartment opened seamlessly for the camera during influencer unboxing videos. Printed on our HP Indigo and SwissQ UV flatbed on Sovereign Offset and E-flute corrugated board. Custom die-cutting and spot UV completed the finish. Delivered on time with no rework.

Production

Custom boxes are produced using our case-making equipment, CNC router, die-cutting press and hand-finishing stations. Printed wraps and inserts come off our HP Indigo and UV flatbed presses. Assembly is manual for rigid and complex structures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the design process take?

From brief to approved prototype: typically 5 to 10 working days. Complex multi-component packaging may take longer.

Can you source the product inserts?

We produce card and foam inserts in-house. For speciality inserts (vacuum-formed, fabric-lined), we coordinate with specialist suppliers.

What is the cost structure?

Custom packaging has a design and prototyping fee plus per-unit production cost. The prototype fee is a one-off investment. Per-unit cost depends on materials, finishing and assembly complexity.

Can you produce a short run?

Yes. Rigid custom packaging is hand-assembled, so runs of 10 to 100 are standard and commercially viable.

Do you handle fulfilment?

We produce the packaging. For fulfilment (packing contents into boxes and dispatching), we coordinate with the client or their fulfilment provider.
